 Historically - One working standard is used every hour and calibrated against two NOAA CMDL primary standards approximately once every 4 months. A target gas is also run once daily as a check on instrumental stability.
Since 2015 - daily target gas run to track instrument stability & drift; bi-annual calibration of CRDS via 5x NOAA laboratory standards
NOAA04 scale (a gravimetrically-prepared CH4 standard scale (see Dlugokencky et al., 2005)). This scale results in CH4 mole fractions that are a factor of 1.0124 greater than previous NOAA methane measurement scale.
2015 onwards: Refer to WMO/ NOAA documentation regarding latest scale information. Currently WMO-CH4-X2004A
daily target gas and monthly 4x secondary laboratory standards to verify calibration line function;Quarterly 5x NOAA laboratory standards to determine calibration line function; Annually, a review of the 4 quarterly calibrations via a rolling average.
 All data with obvious sampling or analytical error are rejected. Furthermore, a statistical filter (moving percentiles) is applied for the selection of background concentrations. Final data are reported with the calibrations omitted.
 [Hourly] Each half-hourly mean constitutes the preceeding two 15 data points. (i.e. the mean at 2:00 would comprise the 1:45 & 2:00 data points);
2015 - onwards: similar procedure to determine 30-min averages from high frequency 1-min data;
 [Daily]
 [Monthly]
 All data reported are valid. Invalid data & Calibrations have been removed from final reported data sets.

 Operational/Reporting
 Scientific Aim : Observation of long-term CH4 trends in maritime air representative of the southern hemispheric mid-latitudes. Research related to baseline CH4 levels and deducing CH4 sources and sinks.

Sampling Environment : Measurements are representative of the greater southern ocean fetch region (baseline filtered data set) and reflects global processes; on occassion, continental air is also sampled, including Cape town metropole (All data set); data should be used in conjunction with Radon-222 tracer data;

15-minute measurements averaged to 30-minute final reporting intervals (1982 - 2015);
1-minute measurements averaged to 30-min final reported intervals (2016 - present);
