During flask measurement the NDIR gas analyser is calibrated against three working standards (CO2-in-air) every 30-40 minutes. Working standard gases are calibrated yearly against the secondary standard.
The reported data are the mean of the CO2 concentrations measured in two simultaneously sampled flask, if the difference between them is less or equal to 1 ppm. Otherwise, the lower of the two measured values is taken as a daily value if it does not differ from the smoothed concentration curve for more than 2 standard deviations. Technically invalid data are excluded.
[Hourly] [Daily] [Monthly] Monthly data are the arithmetic mean of selected according to flag description event data. |
|
Flag description: Retained: + . : Concentration difference in two simultaneously sampled flasks is less than established criteria (1 ppmv for CO2 and 6 ppb for CH4). The reported data are the mean of the two measured concentrations. S . : Concentration difference in two simultaneously sampled flasks is more than established criteria. The reported data are the lower of the two measured concentrations. M. : Only one concentration is available, second flask is off scale or broken. Rejected: .X : rejected as not representative of background conditions (>2 sigma from the smoothed concentration curve) .Z : rejected manually as not representative of background condition. .N : rejected due to error in sampling or analysis. |

Carbon dioxide (CO2) in ambient and standard air samples is detected using a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) analyzer. The measurement of CO2 in air is made relative to standards whose CO2 mole fraction is determined with high precision and accuracy. Because detector response is non-linear in the range of atmospheric levels, at least 3 reference standards are used to calibrate detector response. Measurements are traceable to the WMO CO2 mole fraction scale by using standards from NOAA, AES, Stockholm University and from2010 directly WMO CCL standards.Water vapor removal during NDIR analysis is made by an electric dry cooler with the temperature equal to -55°C. The samples are collected into two evacuated flasks simultaneously. Stainless steel flasks with electropolished inner walls of 1.5l volume were used in 2011-2013. From 2014 the NOAA ESRL glass flasks of 2l volume are used. |
