1). Each analysis is carried out by extracting CO2 from a 2L flask sample, followed by a flaming seal in an ampoule and then measured its isotopic composition relative to CO2 gas in a reference bellow by the IRMS(MAT252), at the same time, the primary anchor is also measured as the sample; 2). Each sample is linked to VPDB-CO2 scale via the primary anchor. The isotope ratios are reported in units of per mil Where: δ18O = [(18O/16Osamp/ (18O/16Ostd/)-1] x 1000 ‰ Measurement precision of IRMS is 0.01 per mil; 3). The overall uncertainty (in terms of accuracy and precision) of individual samples in δ18O is 0.04 permil. |

Three-Column quality control flags: a NOAA 3-column quality control flag has been adopted where each column is defined as follows: [column 1] Hard REJECTION flag. *.. The sample doesn't have a pair; +.. high member of the bad pair (pair rejection criteria: 0.05 permil for δ13C and 0.15 permil for δ18O); -.. low member of the bad pair (pair rejection criteria: 0.05 permil for δ13C and 0.15 permil for δ18O); [column 2] SOFT REJECTION flag. A star other than a period (.) in the SECOND column indicates a sample that is likely valid but does not meet selection criteria determined by the goals of a particular investigation (e.g., the sample may not represent the background condition). [column 3] COMMENT flag. An alphanumeric other than a period (.) in the THIRD column provides additional information about the collection or analysis of the sample (e.g., ""..I"" indicates an ICP sample which have been measured by more than one lab). If both the first and second column contain a period (e.g., ""..."" and ""..I""), the sample is RETAINED. |

Environment Canada installed an auto flask sampling at the site in 2001. Each week, a pair of flasks has been sampled by pressurizing air into the 2-litre double-valve flasks. To catch the diurnal change, one flask was sampled in the afternoon and one was sampled in the midnight. These samples are taken at the 40-metre level of a surface tower. The document below should be referred for the details of analysis. (http://www.atmos-meas-tech.net/6/1685/2013/amt-6-1685-2013.html) Scale and Calibration (traceability) 1) The internationally accepted scale for reporting δ18O is VPDB-CO2 (Vienna Pee Dee Bellemnite); 2). The primary anchor to the VPDB-CO2 scale for CO2 isotope measurements is the pure CO2 evolved from a carbonate (i.e., Cal2) reference materials; 3). Annual calibration is conducted via measuring the primary anchor together with the international reference materials NBS19 and NBS18 (linked to VPDB-CO2). The detailed information for calibration and traceability of the measurements can be found in the reference (http://www.atmos-meas-tech.net/6/1685/2013/amt-6-1685-2013.html). 4). The overall uncertainty (in terms of accuracy and precision) of individual reference materials in δ18O is 0.04 permil. |
