The Working-Level-Monitor uses a mathematical calibration method. Therefore no Radon chamber or comparison with other Working-Level (WL) - Meters are necessary. There is no explicit mathematical formula available because an iterative method is used. The microcomputer of the WL-Monitor integrates in real time the differential equations for 20 different initial sets of the air activities C(Po-218), C(Pb-214), C(Bi-214). That is, the collection and the decay of the filter activity is simulated during the measurement. The results of the 20 simultaneous simulations are 20 pairs of calculated counts N(Po-218) and N(Pb-214).
The data acquisition system gives one hour mean data. Invalid data caused by malfunction or other effects were recognized by comparison/correlation with other trace substances and meteorological data or with the aid of the station logbook and rejected.
