The CO2 analyzer was calibrated with natural-air-based working standard gases of four different CO2 mixing ratios. The standard gases were introduced into the analyzer once per an hour and once per three hours until July 1, 2020 and thereafter, respectively. These working standards are calibrated before and after usage against secondary standards maintained at AIST. Our secondary standards were calibrated against the secondary standards of Tohoku University whose CO2 mixing ratios were evaluated with the Tohoku University 2010 Scale.
All available data other than erroneous data due to sampling or analytical problems are reported.
[Hourly] [Daily] Daily mean data are calculated by averaging the hourly data. [Monthly] Monthly mean data are calculated by averaging the daily data. |

The observation site is located in a cool-temperate deciduous forest in a mountainous area in the central part of the main island of Japan and is situated about 15 km east of Takayama City. The main tree species at the site are deciduous broad-leaved trees such as birch and oak, whose average height is about 17 m. The ground surface is covered with bamboo grass. This forest has been protected for at least 60-70 years (as of 2023). Budding and defoliation occur in May and October, respectively, and the ground surface is usually covered with snow from December to April. Air intakes are mounted at the following heights on a 27-m tower: September 1993 to March 1999: 27, 18, 8.8 and 5.8 m above the ground (the top level is above the canopy, the second just above the canopy, and the lowest two inside the canopy). March 1999 to May 2003: 27, 18, 8.8 and 2.0 m above the ground. May 2003 to August 2003: 27, 18, 8.8 and 3.0 m above the ground. August 2003 to January 2004: 27, 18, 8.8, 5.8, 3.0 and 1.3 m above the ground. January 2004-: 27, 18, 8.8, 5.8, 2.0 and 1.3 m above the ground. The air is drawn by a diaphragm pump and introduced into an NDIR CO2 analyzer after removing aerosols and water vapor. |
