Hateruma Island, a small elliptical island (area, 12.5 km2), is located at the southwestern end of the Japanese Archipelago, 220 km east of Taiwan. It is the southern-most inhabited island of Japan. The station is located at the eastern end of the island. The wind is mainly northerly in winter and southerly in summer. |
